About Harvard College China Forum
Founded in 1997, Harvard College China Forum is dedicated to creating constructive dialogue on the challenges, trends, and issues affecting China. The forum aims to engage leaders in business, academia, and politics in a discourse that offers insights and generates ideas. HCCF is North America’s leading and longest-running student-run conference on China; in 2018, over a thousand delegates and nearly a hundred speakers were in attendance at the forum, making it the largest of its kind. The annual forum takes place every April in Boston, Massachusetts.
History
Harvard College China Forum was founded in 1997 as Harvard China Review, by then Tufts graduate student Zhang Yong (Chief Editor) and Harvard graduate student Lee Ligang Zhang (Publisher)
Initially run by students at the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the magazine expanded its membership to other Harvard schools and eventually to academic institutions in Greater Boston, publishing both works of student staff writers and solicited articles from academics in the area.
Harvard College China Forum was launched partly to increase publicity and partly to boost revenue for the magazine. The Co-Presidents for the first Harvard College China Forum were Bo Li (Deputy Managing Director, IMF) and Lee Ligang Zhang (Founder, Chairman & CEO, iKang Healthcare Group). As the conference gained more momentum, however, HCR leadership decided to focus instead on the increasingly popular Forum.
